All About Homeschool Podcasts

Homeschool podcasts have become a go-to resource for new ideas, fresh perspective, and encouragement on our homeschool journey.

As homeschool moms, we are busy right? No time to add anything else to our plates. I remember using that as an excuse a few years ago when a friend started talking to me about homeschool podcasts. She was telling me about this awesome podcast she listened to from Heidi St. John. I let her know that I quite frankly didn’t have time to listen to podcasts.

Fast forward a few years and I realize how easily portable podcasts are. Instead of needing to find time to sit down and read, I can listen to a podcast while doing dishes, folding laundry, or driving the kids to sports practice. And now? I am obsessed with podcasts. Particularly those created for the homeschool mom.

I love them so much I even started my own! You can learn more about the Joyfully Homeschooling podcast here.

Should you listen to homeschool podcasts? Let's take look at three good reasons to give them a shot

Long drive? Listen to a podcast.

Cleaning day? Listen to a podcast while knocking out the household chores.

Working out? Get some encouragement while walking on the treadmill.

Podcasts have allowed me to get to know some of my favorite bloggers on a more personal level. They are more intimate, down to earth, and real.

There are many reasons why you should listen to homeschool podcasts. Let’s take a look at some of those reasons.

Why You Should Listen to Homeschool Podcasts

 Encouragement for Your Homeschool

Have you ever had a bad day homeschool day? I have. I am sure we all have. Homeschooling is hard, and on those days where we feel defeated and downtrodden, we could use some homeschool encouragement right?

Those are the days where encouraging homeschool podcasts come into play. If you head over to this post you will find some of my favorite encouraging Christian homeschool podcasts.

To Learn How to Homeschool

One way that I have really found time to learn throughout the various seasons of homeschooling and blogging, is by listening to podcasts. Not sure how to homeschool high school? There’s a podcast for that! Homeschooling a child with special needs? There’s a podcast for that! Entering a season of homeschool burnout? Overcome it with some practical tips and encouragement. Homeschool podcasts are such a valuable resource and can be a great way to learn how to homeschool.

For Your Own Entertainment

Honestly, I just really enjoy listening to podcasts. As a busy working homeschool mom, I have a hard time finding the time to sit down and read. Watching an episode of TV proves to be challenging as well. But, listening to podcasts is something I can fit into my day with little to no effort. AND, I leave the time spent feeling refreshed, encouraged, and entertained. Oftentimes I feel like I just had a conversation with a good friend, nothing speaks entertainment more than that!

Podcasts have become a go-to resource for new ideas, fresh perspective, and encouragement on our homeschool journey. There are a wide variety of homeschool podcasts on the scene right now.

Dear homeschool moms, we all have the same 24 hours in a day. I know those hours are spent caring for our little ones, they are spent folding laundry, educating our children, cooking and so much more. Too often times we allow days at a time go by without us stopping and caring for ourselves. Homeschool podcasts allow us to spend some of that time encouraging ourselves, training ourselves, and refreshing our mind.

Thank you to Big Life Journal for sponsoring the podcast.

Sorry I have been MIA here lately. I had a full h Sorry I have been MIA here lately. I had a full hysterectomy a little over two weeks ago. We are SO thankful for the family and friends who fed us and loved on us while I was healing. I am also so blessed to have a great husband and kids who literally took over EVERYTHING related to Thanksgiving dinner. I was truly able to rest and am starting to feel normal. We are back to school, I am back to work and I have been able to ease into it all. God is so good to us and I am so thankful for my inner circle and the love you all pour out to my family.

Leading up to my surgery I was SUPER busy. In October, I took a job for Gather 'Round Homeschool managing their customer service team. Between that, the podcast, and other clients, I have been working full time and it has been craazy. Something is going to have to give in the new year. If you get a chance say a prayer for me because decisions are in the process of being made and I want to have discernment with intentionality and HIS will in mind.

I get asked questions ALL the time and am excited I get asked questions ALL the time and am excited to spend TWO episodes answering YOUR questions with my good friend Davonne Parks.

One question is about homeschool curriculum, and with many of us preparing for holiday breaks and reevaluating what we are using, NOW is the time to remember that YOU are not a SLAVE to your curriculum. You have a choice to make.

If you are feeling burnt out, overwhelmed and ready to ditch the curriculum, check out this episode! #linkinprofile

Don't be afraid to embrace your children's passions. Even if you don't understand them. This girl. This horse. The passion she has, there's no question that God has given this girl a gift.

One of the things that I have LOVED this homeschoo One of the things that I have LOVED this homeschool year is having ALL of my kids back at the table together thanks to @gatherroundhomeschool We had a rough start, but have now finished our second unit (Africa) and are on our third unit (Earth Science) and are REALLY enjoying it. It reminds me of our early days of homeschooling when everyone laughed and learned the same thing. It was what I envisioned homeschooling being, and thankfully it is somewhat like that again :)

What are you all studying right now?

In this podcast episode, I am talking with Charlen In this podcast episode, I am talking with Charlene Hess about the relaxed/digital method of homeschooling. I wasn’t really sure what this would entail before our chat but can honestly say I learned a LOT from Charlene. We may be slightly relaxed/digital. Who knows. We are all over the place. Which method of homeschooling do you use? #linkinprofile

Do you love apple cider? We were able to make some Do you love apple cider? We were able to make some in a fun hands-on field trip a couple of weeks ago. Welcome to all my new followers! I am so happy you Welcome to all my new followers! I am so happy you have decided to follow our homeschool journey. My goal here is to share a peek into the real life of a homeschool family. It’s not always perfect. It’s not always joyful. But, we can choose to embrace imperfection and do the best we can while serving Christ in our role at home. We can choose to strive for a joyful home while acknowledging we will make mistakes along the way.

Through my 11+ years of homeschooling I have learned to recognize the things I have done right, and things I have done wrong. I have yelled at my kids. More than I have wanted to. I have cried. Brokedown. Ditched school. Done school. Took off for hours at a time just to drive. I have bought a curriculum and never used it, I have used audiobooks more than I have ever actually read aloud, and I have fallen in love and out of love with homeschooling at least a dozen times.

I get up, day after day, and keep on trekking. Because, as moms, that's what we do right? We live an imperfect life. We strive to do our best, we mess up, then we get it right. Then, chances are, we mess up again.

But, dear momma, when you get up each morning, I want you to remember that God put you where you are. He put you in YOUR home, with YOUR children. No one else could be a better mom to them than you are. You were placed on this earth to mother those children, and no matter how many times you may mess up (We ALL mess up) that does not mean you failed.

God sees and knows everything. And guess what? God doesn’t love us because of what we DO; He loves us because of who we are. We are HIS. He doesn’t see our failures or our mishaps. He sees our hearts.

For the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart~1 Samuel 16:7

In short, you are doing a great job momma. Keep on trekking. With HIS help, we’ve got this!

One big benefit of homeschooling that I have seen One big benefit of homeschooling that I have seen is the gift of time. Those of you who were thrown into temporary homeschooling have probably seen the same. This gift of time has given my kids the time outdoors to enjoy being a kid. It has opened the door for imagination, and the childhood that most of us had as kids. I love the creativity I have seen in my kids. From teepees in the back yard to a strong warrior, to fairy gardens when the girls were little. It's the gift of a sweet childhood and one HUGE benefit of homeschooling that I didn't know we would have when we started on this journey more than 11 years ago.

What is one benefit you have seen of homeschooling?
