Eeek! It is homeschool curriculum shopping season! This means that chances are you are knee deep in homeschool curriculum catalogs, that you have a going shopping list, and have been scouring online curriculum sites. I know I have been, and I was super excited when our box day finally came! Some of our homeschool curriculum choices for 2015-2016 surprised me, and if you used to follow my blog Mimi’s House, they may surprise you as well.
No changes here! We plan on moving ahead with Rod and Staff for Spelling and for Grammar. This will be our 4th year with Rod and Staff and I don’t plan on going anywhere new, anytime soon 😉 For Reading Comprehension we plan on using Spectrum Reading books, and both girls will move on in their grade level for handwriting.
We are continuing on with CLE Math. I am amazed at how well the girls do with their math program. It is very thorough, and fairly independent, so it is a win/win for us.
Here is where the surprise comes in. For the last 2 years we have used Apologia and Mystery of History as well as some other random curriculum choices here and there. We have enjoyed the curriculum and I have no real complaints.
However, if you used to follow my blog Mimi’s House you know we were a huge fan of Heart of Dakota. It was one of my top three curriculum choices this past year as well. We shelved it a few years ago though due to the fact that it was no longer working for my girls. We have truly missed it, and that is why I am super excited to say that we are going BACK to Heart of Dakota for the 2015-2016 school year. Both girls will be in Preparing Hearts for His Glory. For more about WHY we switched back check out this post!
Heart of Dakota will cover our Geography, Art, History and Science.
Health and Music
We have really enjoyed using Easy Peasy for Health, and will continue doing so this coming year. I plan on having the girl each pick 2 composers from our Zeezok Music curriculum to study next school year. They will be studying Mozart in Heart of Dakota as well.
I am not 100% sure what we will be doing for preschool yet. Daniel will be 4 in July, and we will be most of the way through Little Hands to Heaven at the end of this school year. I am probably going to finish up Little Hands with him in the fall, and then move on to Before Five in a Row using supplements like lap books and printables from Homeschool Creations. Although, we may just do Easy Peasy for preschool when he is done with LHTH. I am also open to reviewing an awesome preschool program if one is offered 🙂
And no homeschool moms curriculum planning is complete without a Well Planned Day Planner! This will be our third year using it and I couldn’t imagine homeschooling without it 🙂 Even in spite of my homeschool confession!
