Are you a homeschool mom tempted to school through Christmas break? I’m sharing why you NEED to take a Christmas break and a few things you should and shouldn’t do on your break.
As Thanksgiving nears many of us are already thinking about Christmas break. At least I am! That is why I wanted to take the time to answer this question from a reader.
“Do you ever feel so behind that you can’t take a Christmas break? Life has gotten in the way this year and we are nowhere near where I wanted to be.”
Confession? I have been where Jennifer is! I have been so tempted to work through Christmas break before, and one year we actually tried it. We only took 3 days off and let me tell you, we paid for it. By mid-January, we were all ready to throw in the towel, and I vowed to NEVER do it again!
So, Jennifer, please take that Christmas break, you and your kids deserve it!
But, I also know that Pinterest and social media is going to give you and me a few ideas as to how to fill our Christmas break. So, not only am I telling you to take a break I am going to give you a list of things to do and a list of things NOT to do while you’re on Christmas break.
Check out the list in the video below! Scroll down for the highlights 🙂
Don’t Feel Guilty
We’ve all done it. We see the other homeschool moms making cute crafts, celebrating Advent and baking treats. We aren’t doing those things and immediately the guilt sets in. Listen, you don’t have to be some fancy holiday mom to rock the holidays.
Don’t Plan Next Semester
Just say no to it. Believe me. You can plan out the next semester when it comes. Or take a few teacher planning days before you start Christmas break. Public schools get to count those days as school, why can’t we??
What Should a Homeschool Mom Do on Christmas Break?
Do what YOU want to do. Read that read aloud that you LOVE to share each holiday with the family. Go look at Christmas lights on a school night. Do things that YOU and YOUR family find enjoyable. That will be different than what I do, and guess what? That’s okay!
So, are you ready for Christmas break? I am! My recommendation? Minimum of two weeks for Christmas break. Preferably take off Thanksgiving through New Year.
