Contentment. Never have I thought of a word with so much power. Contentment.
Do you know this verse comes up a LOT of times in the bible? I couldn’t find an exact count, but I did find at least 20 references. I am going to share my top five!
- For I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Phillipians 4:11
- But godliness with contentment is great gain.. 1 Timothy 6:6
- And be content with such things as ye have: Hebrews 13: 5
- Each man must remain in that condition in which he was called. 1 Corinthians 7:20
- The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1
Contentment, just like joy, is a choice. In fact, I’d be bold enough to claim that CONTENTMENT is the KEY to JOY. When we are content we tend to be a lot happier. Think about it.
When our kids make messes in the kitchen, we are DISCONTENT with the mess.
When someone is slowing us down, we are DISCONTENT with the wait.
When we are frustrated over finances, we are DISCONTENT with our income.
In all these situations, our joy is dependent on our CONTENTMENT. Yet, too often times we choose the opposite.
So, today’s choose joy challenge is to be CONTENT. No matter what the day has in store for you. No matter what your present circumstances are, be CONTENT. And in doing so, I’d guaranteed your day will be a lot more joy filled!
