I love my kids. I do. But, sometimes they just get on my last nerve. Can you relate? It’s like they know exactly what buttons to push to get mom to come all UNGLUED!
After my unglued moments, the whole atmosphere of my home changes. I’m frustrated. The kids are hurt. And the whole mood of the day is shot.
So, in order to become a less unglued mama I have been trying something. Laughing instead of yelling.
Here’s how it looks:
- When they ask for something for the 27th time…. laugh. Smile. And look away.
- When I feel like I need to raise my voice, laugh. Make a silly face. Think of something funny.
- Frustrated with the kids fighting? Turn on a funny song. Get moving. Before you know it you’ll be laughing.
- Walk away. Shut the door. Find a funny cat video on You Tube (I hear they are hilarious!) or another method to save your sanity.
Why? Studies have shown that laughter really is the best medicine!
Laughter dissolves distressing emotions. You can’t feel anxious, angry, or sad when you’re laughing.
Laughter helps you relax and recharge. It reduces stress and increases energy, enabling you to stay focused and accomplish more.
Humor shifts perspective, allowing you to see situations in a more realistic, less threatening light. A humorous perspective creates psychological distance, which can help you avoid feeling overwhelmed ~Helpguide.org
Those sound like reason enough to choose laughter over a sour mood. If I think of something long enough I can find humor in it. You can too! There is humor in every situation if we look for it. So, #choosejoy today mamas. Laugh. Don’t yell. Save the unglued moments for another time 🙂
