I had full intentions on letting the kids pick from an “approved” list this year for their school reading selections. However, when I was preparing for the new school year, I ended up with 2 eager little girls asking me, “What are we reading this year?”. So, we went through my Pinterest boards together, and made what I feel is an awesome reading list!
Now, keep in mind these are what they are reading during scheduled independent reading time. They are both avid readers and check out tons of books from the library. Some favorites are Circle C, Amish fiction, Puppy Place, Sisters in Time, Little House on the Prairie, Magic Tree House and many others. Overall, they seem to have very good selection in books. However, during the school year, I like to make sure they also select books that I know are good quality literature. Each month the girls can pick a book from this list, read it and write a book report on it. I printed off these simple book report forms from Pinterest. They worked really well last year.
Alyson has a wide variety on her list this year, and some of the selections surprised me. She made her list pretty quickly, and seems very excited to dig into her first book!
Ben and Me
Kristen 1st Grade
Kristen is my animal lover! As you can see from this list almost all of the covers include at least a picture of an animal! The ones that don’t I had to promise her an animal was at least mentioned in the book 🙂
Family Read A Louds
One of our favorite parts of the day is reading together at lunch time. Our list this year reflects all three kids fairly well. We have some books that are more geared toward Daniel, the animal ones are going to be Kristen’s favorites, and the more girly topics fit Alyson perfectly.
I hope you enjoyed a peek at our reading list this year. What books will you be reading?
